Adopting a farm animal from RSPCA WA
Farm animals require significant space, time, financial commitment and specialist care. Make sure you have the right property, facilities and knowledge before considering adopting.
What you need before you adopt:
- A suitable property for the type and number of animals you’re interested in
- A Property Identification Code (required for all farm animals except chickens)
- Secure fencing and appropriate shelter for the type and number of animals you’re interested in
- A reliable supply of quality food and provision of clean, fresh water at all times
- Equipment for safe transport, including the ability to transport them from the RSPCA WA Animal Care Centre or their agistment location to your property
- Access to the appropriate veterinary care, dental care and hoof care
- Time for daily care and enrichment
- Knowledge of and ability to meet their needs for movement, enrichment, social interaction, companionship, nutrition and hygiene.

Fostering a farm animal from RSPCA WA
Foster carers play a vital role in providing a safe, stable environment and space for our larger farm animals while they await adoption or continue rehabilitation.
How we support our foster carers
When you generously give your time and effort to foster a farm animal with RSPCA WA, we provide:
- Feed and essential supplies (where required)
- Veterinary care and treatment plans
- Guidance and support from our experienced team
- Ongoing check-ins throughout the foster period
As a foster carer, you will need to take responsibility for the animals in your care, including committing the appropriate time, space and hands-on effort to support their recovery and overall wellbeing.
